The Haaiya: The Aqidah Poem of Imam Ibn Abu Dawud (Rh.)

The Haaiya is a didactic poem on Islamic Creed in the tradition of the early Hanbali scholars written by Imam Haafiz Abu Bakr Abdullah the son of the renowned Imam Abu Dawud al-Sijistaani RH. The son was an authoritive scholar in his own right and some considered him to be greater than the father. Despite its brevity i.e. 33 lines, multiple commentaries exist on the Creed. The most extensive being the later era Hanbali giant of Palestine Imam Saffirini’s (d. 1188 AH or 1774 CE) two-volume masterpiece Lawaaih al-Anwaar al-Saniyya. The Haaiya is forceful and spells out in clear terms the fundamental beliefs that a Muslim needs to live and die by like the early Muslims. It is hoped that through this course, core beliefs of Islam that all Muslims agree upon and their sources will be highlighted from a Hanbali perspective.
